I’m Peter Mathis. I made wine at Ravenswood for more than 20 years. Mathis Vineyard, in the hills above Sonoma Valley, is my “old school” project. Here I cleared the land nearly twenty years ago and planted mostly Grenache, with some Carignane, Petite Sirah and Alicante Bouschet.

I grow it. I make it.

Grenache is my passion. Ten years after first introducing my “baby,” I added my Rosé de Grenache in 2012. Three vintages later, the 2015 Rosé de Grenache won Best in Class at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. (And the 2021 Rosé de Grenache was just awarded a Double Gold Medal and 95 points at the 2022 Experience Rosé Wine Competition.)

Within another couple of years, I added Überblend to the portfolio. Made from the same grapes and same estate vineyard---but comprising an entirely different blend of Petite Sirah, Grenache, Carignane and Alicante Bouschet---the 2012 vintage won Double Gold at the San Francisco International Wine Competition, and 2017 vintage received a 93 score The Tasting Panel Magazine.

For the 2023 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, my Grenache took Best of Class, and the Rosé de Grenache won a Gold Medal.

Is Grenache your passion? It's a joyful wine, sure to put a smile on your face! Cheers!
